Setting Up Custom Domain for Blogger from GoDaddy
When you start a blog on BlogSpot.com, you usually get a domain name like abc.blogspot.com and this is what we call as a free domain name. Whereas custom domain name is something like abc.com. A good example is TechTrickHome.com which is a custom domain name. There are endless benefits of using a custom name for your BlogSpot blog instead of free name.Now, setting up the custom domain feature in BlogSpot is a bit of technical part, but this guide is targeted to non-technical people. Here we're sharing the complete step by step guide which you can follow to add a BlogSpot custom domain to your blogger blog. In this case, we're assuming you have purchased domain name from GoDaddy and you have access to your BlogSpot blog. .

We're going to share this complete setup guide actually in two parts-->



  1. Adding the custom domain to your blog on blogger
  2. Creating CNAME Record on godaddy.com

Adding Custom Domain on Blogger

  • Go to your BlogSpot blog’s basic settings page, Dashboard > Settings > Basic
  • Click on Add a custom domain > Switch to advanced settings
  • Enter your domain (e.g.  www.example.com) in the box under Advanced settings 
  • Click on Save
  • Don’t worry about the massage “We have not been able to verify your authority to this domain. Error 12”  - We gonna fix out it.
  • Look just below to the error massage; you will see some necessary code provided by Google. Copy and Save the marked code snippets as shown in the screenshot below. It will be required on the next.




Note: This code provided by Google is to verify your Domain Authority. You have to create two CNAME record on your domain’s DNS settings with these code. One cName code is for hosting and the long one is for verifying authority.

Create CNAME Records On GoDaddy

  • Log into your Godaddy account.
  • Open All product tab and from Domain sub-tab select manage now as per the below screenshot. It will reach you to the Domain Manager page.


  • Click on your desire domain name. A new page of domain managing will come.
  • Now you can see your Domain name,click on your Domain name.
  • Now click on DNS Zone file tab and then click Edit button to edit your DNS zone file.


  • Now a new page will open where you can add DNS and A record setting.
  • Now add a CNAME Record by clicking Quick Add button under CNAME (Alias) section, with the detail below.

Host: www 
    Points to: ghs.google.com 

    NOTE: If there is already a CNAME Record with www as Host, first delete it then add yours.

      • Create another CNAME Record with the details you saved in.
      NOTE: You may notice that there is few CNAME Records created already, these are generated by Godaddy as default. You can delete theme all if you don’t need as because we’re pointing this domain at Google Hosting server (ghs.google.com)
      • Now it's time to add A(Host) record. Go to A(Host) field and add some IP address used by Blogger in the manner we have added in mou domain DNS zone file and keep default A record that is available by default in your zone file.
      • Click Quick Add button and add @ in Host filed and IP address in Points to Filed and keep TTL 1 Hour.
      • Add 4 A record as follows.

      1. 216.239.32.21
      2. 216.239.34.21
      3. 216.239.36.21
      4. 216.239.38.21

      • After all click on Save DNS Zone button to save your settings.
      • Now to forward your domain go to all Domain page and on your domain name click small down arrow Icon and then click on Forward Domain.
      • Now click on Add then in Forward to field enter your domain name in Redirect field select 301(Permanent) and keep Type forward only.

      Back to Blogger Settings


      • Click on Save
      • After successfully saved click on Edit again.
      • Check on Redirect example.com to www.example.com
      • Save


      NOTE: After completing all the steps successfully, if you see “404 error” while previewing your new added domain. Don’t worry, these changes may take 1-48 hours to take effect.

      That's it.If all went well then you can access your website with new custom Domain.



      The whole process may look technical, but once you are inside the dashboard and follow all the steps mentioned above, it will be easier for you to implement.
